We are looking for a highly motivated scientist with experience and a track record in mapping atmospheric products from satellite data. You will have a PhD or equivalent in a related subject with a significant remote sensing component and a background in Earth sciences, chemistry, physics, mathematics or computer sciences. Previous experience in using algorithms to retrieve volcanogenic species, with exposure to multi- and hyperspectral datasets would be highly advantageous.

Scholarship Description: The Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Bristol (UK) has an opening for a post-doctoral research assistant in the volcanology group. This post is attached to a NERC funded three-year research project ‘characterisation of the near-field Eyjafjallajokull volcanic plume and its long-range influence’, a large multi-institution effort to improve our understanding of volcanic ash clouds. The research you will carry out will be focussed on work package 3 of the proposal: Satellite remote sensing of volcanic ash and gases (Dr. Matthew Watson (Bristol, lead), Dr. Don Grainger (Oxford) and Prof. Paul Palmer (Edinburgh)), to be conducted by three post doctoral researchers.
