Study Subject(s):Polymer chemistry for biosensor and bioanalytical
Course Level:PhD
Scholarship Provider: Hasselt University
Scholarship can be taken at: Belgium

Eligibility: -The candidate is expected to perform research in the area of polymer chemistry for biosensor and bio-analytical applications.
-Demonstrated experience in the synthesis of organic molecules and/or polymers
-Willingness to collaborate in an interdisciplinary setting.
-A good command of the English language Master in Chemistry (or equivalent).
- Final year students are (likewise) encouraged to apply.

Scholarship Open for International Students: Yes

Scholarship Description: The topic of the PhD research is situated in the area of polymeric materials for application in biosensors and bio-analytical separations, with an emphasis on a number of synthetic organic chemical aspects of the research into molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs). In addition to synthesis, there will be attention paid to both a complete characterization of the obtained materials with a variety of analytical techniques as well as the final application of these materials in sensors and separations. In the framework of this project, there will be active collaborations with a multidisciplinary team of research groups both within and outside Hasselt University. Besides research, also a limited contribution in the didactic tasks of the department is expected from the candidate ( assistance in (laboratory) exercises or guidance of internships).

Doctorate Positions at Faculty of Physics, Astronomy, and Applied Computer Science at Jagiellonian University in Poland – 2011

Study Subject(s):Coherenly Prepared Media – novel properties and applications
Course Level:PhD
Scholarship Provider: Foundation for Polish Science Team Programme and EU European Regional Development Fund
Scholarship can be taken at: Poland

Eligibility:•MSc, Engineer, or equivalent Diploma in physics, material science, or related fields,
•good record in atomic, optical physics and in quantum mechanics,
•experience in experimental physics, particularly in laser physics, atomic/molecular spectroscopy, optics and/or photonics,
•strong motivation and creativity in research work,

•good command of English.

Scholarship Open for International Students: No

Scholarship Description: Coherently prepared media – novel properties and applications” is a research project dedicated to studies of a new type of materials, the so-called coherently prepared media (CPM), which possess extraordinary physical properties. The project concentrates on the analysis of optical properties of CPM, which originate from microscopic properties (quantum superpositions of energy levels) of atoms or molecules constituting the media: ultra-cold gases (Bose-Einstein condensates), room temperature gases, diamonds with NV-color centers, photonic-crystal fibers. The quantum state of the particles will be tailored by mean of electromagnetic fields. The research merges such fields as atomic physics, atomic optics, solid-state physics, photonics, and quantum information theory. It stands at the frontiers of fundamental science, as well as modern hi-tech applications. •possibility of completing PhD thesis in physics, •access to modern experimental apparatus, •work in a dynamic team, active involvement in edge-cutting research, •development of leadership experience, •involvement in international collaboration, •stipend (3 500 PLN per month) for 2-4 years.
